(Let it be known to all by these presents that I ...)

Tunc bene liceat predicto Johanni et heredibus et assignatis suis ingredi et terram predictam retinere.
(Then let it be truly lawful for the aforesaid John and his heirs and assigns to enter and to retain the aforesaid land.)

B1 - Subjunctive after orders or commands

Preceptum est quod nullos exitus habeant.
It is ordered that they should have no exits.



B2 - Subjunctive to express conditions

Si contingat (present subjunctive) quod predictus Simo obierit (future perfect) sine herede, predictum messuagium remaneat Johanni.
If it should happen that the aforesaid Sion dies without heir, let the aforesaid messuage remain to John.


[Double subjunctive]

Do attornato meo plenam potestatem facere nomine meo sicut ego facerem si personaliter interessem.
I give my attorney full power to act in my name just as I would act if I were present in person.

("were present" and "would act" are both rendered by imperfect subjunctive in Latin.)


Recognovit quod si terra sua non fuisset tam larga quam terra parcenariorum suorum, terram sibi cepisset ex largiore parte.
He acknowledged that if his land had not been as big as the land of his parceners, he would have taken land for himself from the larger portion.

("had not been" and "would have taken" are rendered by pluperfect subjunctives in Latin.)



B3 - Subjunctive to express purpose

Et ut hec mea honacio concessio et presentis carte mee confirmatio rata stet (present subjunctive) et illesa imperpetuum permaneat (present subjunctive) huic presenti carte sigillum meum apposui.
